Though I have focused till now on a Ketogenic Diet and those supplements and medication that would interfere with the feeding pathways of the cancer. I have now started looking into Anti-Angiogenic properties of food and supplements. Angiogenisis is the process by which the body produces and balances blood vessels in a very controlled way for growth (puberty, pregnancy), repair (wounds, injuries) etc. Cancer highjacks this process to produce a feeding source to help it grow.

Sixty-five years ago we saw this process at work with horrible consequences. The drug was called Thalidomide and was given to pregnant women as a measure against morning sickness. The resulting "Thalidomide babies" born with flippers instead of arms and legs was horrific indeed. This drug stopped the formation of new blood vessels which prevented normal limb growth in a fetus. In another case the drug Viagra, also had unforeseen side effects (these ones being fortuitous). It was originally created for cardiac patients. Now making billions instead for it's side effects. But Thalidomide also seems to have a fortuitous side effect. It showed that it had a truly amazing anti-angiogentic property, and that in most cases caused only mild side effects, (Peripheral neuropathy, drowsiness, rash, dizziness and blood clots). Still the medical establishment is leery of using it for cancer patients. It's only use today (grudgingly) is for skin cancer, but it is being studies in other cancer areas.

After seeing an online talk by Dr. William Li. I have also added Vitamin E (Delta-Tocotrienol only not alpha-Tocopherol) to my supplements. It show promising anti-angiogenic properties . In this snippet he compares the anti-angiogenic properties of cancer drugs to foods and supplements and scores them.

Vitamin E is a supplement who's benefits have been down graded in the past few years based on studies looking at it as an anti-oxidant. But I think that the focus should have been on it's anti-andiogenic properties instead. The problem is that there are 8 types of vitamin e, 4 tocopherols (Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta) and 4 tocotrienols (also Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta). Most of the studies done were with Alpha tocopherol which did not inhibit angiogenisis. The one we are interested for anti-andiogenisis purposes is Delta Tocotrienols. It needs to be taken with MK7 and fat to be absorbed. I take both suppliments first thing in the morning with my Decaffeinated peculated coffee (12 - 16 oz) with 3 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. A great way to start the morning feed my brain and fight my cancer.

Vitamin C and Angiogenisis (A great intro to Angiogenisis)
